After more than 20 years, we’ve made the difficult decision to conclude the work of Health Powered Kids.
In 2003 Allina Health launched Health Powered Kids to provide schools, community organizations and families with fun, easy-to-use information about health and wellness. The program was inspired by the Community Health Needs Assessment and conversations with our patients and community members. At the time, communities had increasing concerns about childhood obesity and the health and eating habits of kids.
Over the years, we provided 60+ lessons on nutrition, physical fitness and mind-body balance for youth, ages 3 to 14 years. Thousands of kids have benefitted from the activities and lessons shared online.
Now, after 20 years, we’ve made the difficult decision to conclude the work of Health Powered Kids. New organizations now provide classroom activities similar to Health Powered Kids. The recent Community Health Needs Assessments have identified other concerns as more pressing, particularly mental well-being among young children.
During the coming year, we will move and/or redirect some content from Health Powered Kids to Change to Chill, Allina Health’s youth mental well-being initiative. While Change to Chill has primarily focused on teenagers, this shift will help expand efforts to support caregivers of youth of all ages.
As another step in this process, we anticipate establishing a more condensed version of Health Powered Kids. We encourage you to download the materials you have found useful and retain them for your use.
We are so grateful for your partnership and participation the past 20 years. Thank you for your commitment to the physical and mental health of kids. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
